How To Root and Unlock Bootloader of LG Optimus G

The LG Optimus G finally has its own unlock and rooting solution. If you were waiting for it through these days, it’s now available and what could make it easier other than the All in One Tool. The Optimus G on Sprint has a locked bootloader on it which needs to be unlocked initially to proceed with the rooting process. Once the bootloader is unlocked, the rooting process is initiated using the tool.
Going about the rooting and unlocking process is pretty simple, however a couple of pre-requisites are needed before we begin the process on the LG Optimus G LS970.
Disclaimer: If all the instructions were followed right as mentioned in this article, there is no possibility of bricking the phone. However, if it still accidentally happened, we would not be responsible in any manner for the damage that would occur to your LG Optimus G LS970 due to improper operating process.

Instructions

  • Apply the instructions listed in this tutorial only for LG Optimus G model number LS970, do not use this guide for any other android device.
  • Make a full backup of your critical data stored on your device by moving them directly to your memory card or your PC.
  • Enable USB Debugging mode by going to Settings -> Device Information -> Enable USB Debugging Mode.
  • Make sure the phone has at least over 70% of battery capacity before initiating the process.
  • Read the entire post and make sure that you don’t skip any steps that I have listed below.

Procedure

In this process, you will be unlocking the bootloader, rooting the phone and installing custom recovery on your Optimus G smartphone.
  1. Before we begin with the process, you need to download the All In One Tool and  saved it in your PC. Download Link
  2. Now, connect the LG Optimus G to your computer using the original microUSB mode. When connected, there would be a prompt asking for which mode to choose. Make sure it is in the Charge-Only mode. Also make sure USB Debugging is enabled as instructed above.
  3. Now, go to the folder where the GAIO tool was downloaded to open the application. If you are on Windows, you need to select the "Install LG Drivers" option when prompted before proceeding to the next step. However, this step is not required on a Linux based Operating System.
  4. Select "Root LG Optimus G". When this option is selected, the phone is directly rooted once the process stops.
  5. Now, select "Unlock Bootloader" which would unlock the bootloader of the Optimus G.
  6. Now, we have rooted and unlocked the bootloader of the smartphone. However, to install Custom ROMs, a custom recovery is a must. This can be solved by choosing "Install Custom Recovery" from the list of options. Now, the application overrides the default recovery menu with the custom recovery menu which would allow you to install Custom ROMs from now on.
  7. The rooting, unlocking  bootloader and the custom recovery installation process is now complete.
To access the Recovery menu, press the “Volume Down” twice before powering the phone on. From here, you can install custom ROMs by selecting the zip file which have been placed in the SD Card.

FocusTwist app for iOS gives you Lytro-esque refocusable images

Arqball has just released the FocusTwist app for iOS that lets you selectively focusafter taking an image -- without investing $400 in a Lytro light field camera. It works by automatically taking several shots with different focus points from your iPhone's camera, delivering the best results if you hold very still and have subjects in the near foreground and far background. You can then change focus by clicking different parts of the resulting image, which is hosted on the company's server and can be shared via a link. After playing with the app ourselves for a bit (see the More Coverage link), we've got to admit we're stupidly hooked -- you can grab it at the source for $1.99.

Nike+ FuelBand app for iOS adds friends and sharing

Where's the fun in owning an exercise tracker like the Nike+ FuelBand if you can't lord your healthiness over others? Nike must have wondered the same thing, as it just updated the FuelBand's iOS app to add Nike+ Friends. Wearers can now learn where their step count places them relative to their peers and share the results for all to see. Should there be any doubters, owners can attach photos, locations and mentions of nearby friends to back up their boasting. Yes, it's an upgrade that's primarily focused on oneupmanship, but it's good in our book if it makes us walk just a bit further each day.

WhereverTV streaming service now available on iOS

Don't let the name fool ya -- "WhereverTV" wasn't on any iOS devices till this morning when the Neuros-powered streaming global television service got an App Store launch. It's intended for a wide variety of iOS devices -- the iPhone 3GS through the 5, as well as iPod Touches and iPads running iOS 4.3 or newer -- and offers access to WhereverTV free international TV streaming options, as well as paid options for Greek, Moroccan, and Arabic programming.
Users aren't limited by connection, either, as even 3G signal is supported by the app; of course, we wouldn't suggest you go depending on that option, but it willfunction should you try. WhereverTV is also promising updates in the future, such as DVR scheduling and playback, as well as more free channels. That is, in addition to the company's ongoing quest to make good on its name.

Impact of iOS Device Access
"With Apple forecasting sales of 102 million iPads and 194 million iPhones in 2013, it is a necessity to have our service accessible to users of these wildly popular devices," explained Mark Cavicchia , TVTV's CEO. "Apple's App Store has over 500 million active accounts and had a record-breaking 2012 with nearly 20 billion downloads during the year. Our current subscribers will no doubt benefit from this additional outlet to access their content, while WhereverTV's subscription services will appeal to an expanded customer base that is already accustomed to using Apple's ecosystem for accessing video content and other entertainment."
Increasing the ease in delivering over-the-top content to television sets has been the major focus of TVTV's business strategy from its inception. "Streaming channels from WhereverTV's App to TV sets via AirPlay allows subscribers to watch live content on their big screen while browsing and navigating from their handheld devices," continued Mr. Cavicchia. "Technology has caught up to our patent pending Global IPG system to the point where consumers are no longer bound to traditional cable and satellite providers. Much like we are seeing cell phones replace landlines throughout the world, we will soon see a shift in the way people access, manage and view live television content as technology continues to evolve. WhereverTV is well positioned to be in front of that shift."

The Company is already working on future enhancements to its iOS App, which include DVR scheduling and playback capabilities, as well as adding free-to-air internet television channels from around the world.

Notably, this includes the likes of the full Calvin & Hobbes archives, along with Universal Uclick citing it as the exclusive portal to Dilbert strips on mobile. We won't keep you any longer now that you know, so head over to the appropriate source link if you'd like to download it for yourself.

Just.me launches on iOS, aims to become favorite messaging app

Apple's App Store certainly doesn't suffer from any shortages in the social apps department, but that's not stopping the newly launched Just.me from attempting to work itself into the daily lives of iOS users. After about two years of being in the development stage, Just.me has finally matured and is now readily available on Cupertino's platform, giving the iDevice crowd a messaging service that's reminiscent of Facebook's own chatty offering.
What makes Just.me slightly different, however, are many of the other built-in tidbits, such as a cloud storage feature that lets folks save conversations they'd rather keep private, as well as the ability to message just about anyone in your contacts list from within the application -- even if they aren't account holders. So, if you think you have the time to keep track of one more thing, Just.me is just a free download away.

Facebook: Free VoIP calling to Android users in the US

Not content to own your phone's home screen, Facebook is bringing free VoIP calling to users of its Home and Android Messenger apps in the US. The social network's VoIP for iOS has been available in the US for a few months now, and Android users are already enjoying the service in 23 other countries, including Canada. Stateside, the VoIP for Android will roll out over the course of the day, and it shouldn't require a manual update; users will know they have the new VoIP feature if they can click the "i" icon on a friend's profile and then select "free call." From Chat Heads, starting a call requires tapping the "more info" dots next to a friend's name to jump into the Messenger app.
